Getting Things Done

 Leadership is more than just getting the work done. Sylvia Lovely, executive director and CEO of the Kentucky League of Cities wrote recently that leadership is 99% inspiration and 1% perspiration. She went on to say that "being efficient and doing things 'right' and on time are desirable traits but they don't meet all the needs of the community."

 But what is an effective leader? Ms. Lovely listed what it means:

• collaborating with others
• building teams and developing people
• leading meetings and solving problems
• taking the initiative
• pursuing training opportunities
• analyzing and planning
• managing change
• accepting responsibility
• making decisions
• motivating others
• supporting citizen initiatives
• encouraging citizen involvement
• building trust and commitment

As I looked over this list, I realized this is what our City Council is and does. They are truly committed to being good public servants. Each cares deeply for Wilmore and wants what is best for our citizens. James Brumfield, Leonard Fitch, Bill Glover, Ann Hager, Judy Metcalf, and Paul Southgate are working hard to make Wilmore a better place to live and work. Thank you for the great work you are doing to get things done and for doing more right things.
