Donald Grimes, Road Scholar
Donald Grimes, Public Works Director for the City of Wilmore, was among the 39 local government employees from across Kentucky this year to receive the "Road Scholar" designation from the Kentucky Transportation Center at the University of Kentucky. The designation was presented by Jesse Storey, the new Division Administrator for the Federal Highway Administration at the 33rd Annual Transportation Forum held at UK on September 31-October 1, 1997.
To become a Road Scholar, Donald completed the Road Supervisors' Training Program presented by the Center in cooperation with Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The Program consists of a series of management and operations training courses designated to provide the basic knowledge necessary to manage a local roads program. There are currently 121 local government employees who have been designated Roads Scholars since the program began nine years ago.
Donald is in his 18th year as Director of Public Works, in which he is in charge of streets and roads, and water and sewer distribution and ten parks. Donaldís father, Dan Grimes, served Wilmore for years as jailer and his grandfather, John William Grimes, was our first town marshall. Donald's wife Connie has served Wilmore as dispatch supervisor for 15 years.
Thank you to the Grimes family for your decades of dedicated public service to Wilmore. We appreciate you and are proud of you. Congratulations, Donald.
