Text Box: Paul Sawyier drama
 to be held at
 High Bridge Pavilion

An original outdoor drama, based on the life of noted Kentucky artist Paul Sawyier, will be presented September 15-16, 2006, at the beautifully reconstructed High Bridge Pavilion at High Bridge, Kentucky, in Jessamine County. “The Paul Sawyier Story”, based on a Sawyier biography by author Nettie Glenn, covers Sawyier’s life from his privileged birth and heritage through his sad love story with Miss Mayme Bull, his family’s financial decline, to his tragic death from a heart attack at the age of 52.

As an American Impressionist, Sawyier painted over 3000 originals of which only
approximately 1500 have been found or
accounted for. Over 300 of his works have been reproduced as highly desirable and
collectable limited edition art prints. As with most creative geniuses, his fame followed his death.

The drama brings together several elements, which will be of particular interest to many:
q	Life on the famous Kentucky River with its magnificent limestone cliffs known as The River Palisades
q	High Bridge, a designated engineering landmark and once the world’s highest bridge, over which the Norfolk-Southern Line is still the busiest north-south train route in the nation
q	The historic park adjacent to the Bridge and overlooking the river with its recently reconstructed
Text Box: Victorian-style pavilion, once home to cultural and religious meetings as well as dances and picnics in the late 1880’s
q	The beautiful river paintings by Mr. Sawyier who resided for several years on a houseboat under High Bridge, capturing the delicate color and rugged beauty of the twisting Kentucky River
q	The life of a gifted genteel but stubborn artist who refused all marketing attempts, thus restricting him to local acclaim and a life of virtual poverty

The drama is sponsored in part by the Kentucky River Authority, the Jessamine County Fiscal Court, and the Jessamine County Special Events Committee.
