Special Thanks to Cody Meadows and Ryan Rawls

his month we are featuring two teenagers who have been actively involved in the Wilmore-High Bridge Community Service Center. As summer comes to a close and these youths are back in school. Their services have been very much appreciated.

The Wilmore-High Bridge Community Service Center has been in operation since 1980. Betty Price became the 6th director in 1994. The Center has flourished under Betty's leadership. As I sat and did this interview with Betty, I was aware of a family of kids and adults putting forth a great deal of effort to help this service succeed. The Community Service Center is a "needs assistance" program for Wilmore and High Bridge. The Center is located above the Wilmore Police Department and Wilmore City Hall. It provides Attic Treasures, a thrift shop of clothes, household items and toys; a clothing bank, a food bank, and special events for the children of our community including an Easter egg hunt in the spring and Halloween treats in the fall.

Cody Meadows, a 7th grader at West Jessamine Middle School, has helped at the Center by bringing loads of clothing upstairs from the drop-off bin located in the parking lot next to City Hall. He helped out at the Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays this past summer. Cody has helped organize and prepare food boxes for needy families. The youngest of four, Cody has two sisters and one brother. His family lives on Jessamine Station Road. He is an A-B student in school and likes to play basketball and baseball. Cody, Wilmore thanks you for your service.

Ryan Rawls helped the Center in yet another way. For an Eagle Scout project, Ryan coordinated volunteers to help by donating materials to build shelves in the Center. He designed the shelving and built a structure on the back wall of the Center allowing more space for displays. Ryan is a graduate of West Jessamine County High School and plans to attend college this fall. Good job and thank you for your responsible leadership in this project.

There are many others who help out at the Community Service Center. Their efforts are much appreciated as are the efforts of students from Asbury College, Asbury Seminary and others in our very fine community.

"The donation bin is full almost every day. This town has a lot to give" said Betty Price. "And we have an angel who comes to pick up the Attic Treasures donations not used. Jeff Angel, from the Mountain Mission, helps distribute left over items not used to mountain charities in eastern Kentucky." This is a gift from our community. Many thanks to all of you who contribute and those who provide endless hours for this service.

There are many ways YOU CAN HELP our community. The Wilmore-High Bridge Community Service Center has been a beacon to children and adults who need to be nurtured, as well as to those who need to nurture. Participation is a way to help our children to become responsible adults. Let's teach our children well to grow and to learn in this very fine town. Thanks to all who donate goods and volunteer their time to the Wilmore- High Bridge Community Service Center at 335 East Main Street in Wilmore.
