Police Officer of the Month

Scot Eccleston

Scot first became employed with the Wilmore Police Department in February 1975. He was first a part-time officer, which included dispatching duties. This was when the police department was in the old fire hall located behind the Presbyterian Church (now torn down).

Not only has Scot been a part-time officer and dispatcher, he has worked as a full time patrolman, uniform sergeant, asst. chief and acting chief when Roger Swallows passed away in December 1994. Many of the people in Wilmore do not know Scot because for the many years he has worked for Wilmore, he has worked the midnight shift.

Scot has been an exceptional patrolman making numerous patrol arrests, several involving persons in building while they were doing a break-in. In 1994 Mayor Harold Rainwater and Chief Roger Swallows recognized Scot for coordinating aerial surveillance with several agencies, including the DEA, involving marijuana eradication in the Jessamine County area. Scot is a scuba diver and has been called on by state and local police agencies to assist them for a variety of underwater searches.

Scot is an Ohio native, and came to Wilmore to attend Asbury College. He graduated in 1974. After graduating he stayed at Asbury as a resident director in a men's dorm. While at Asbury College, Scot gave swimming lessons.

Scot took a year off in 1997. He recently returned to active duty with the department. Scot has given many faithful years of service to the citizens of Wilmore, and continues to be a faithful and loyal employee.

We are excited to have Scot back in uniform and back on patrol. I recently received a compliment about Scot from a local business-person. This person said that he has observed Scot's performance over the years and feels he is the best!
