Meet the City
Council Candidates

In an effort to inform Wilmore voters, candidates for the City Council have each submitted a brief biography telling voters what they wanted them to know about themselves and answered two questions regarding their stand on issues they will face if elected.

JEFF BAIER

I came to Wilmore with my family (wife, Piper and daughter, Susan) in August of 1989. Our game plan was for me to graduate from Asbury College with a Broadcasting Degree in three years and move on. Three years turned into four, and a summertime job with Kentucky Underground Storage, became an opportunity. We fell in love with the community and developed some dear relationships along the way. I remember the first time I walked into Fitches and encountered a smiling Leonard Fitch, who promptly told me "Wilmore is a special place." How right he was. So, nine years, five homes, two children, and two cats later, we proudly call Wilmore our home

JAMES CLAY BRUMFIELD

My name is Jim Brumfield, I grew up in Wilmore, and graduated from Western KY University with a degree in Accounting. I am the Controller for Asbury Theological Seminary. My wife's name is Janet, and we have one son, Jacob, who is in 5th grade at Wilmore Elementary. We attend the Wilmore United Methodist church. I have served on the Wilmore City Council for nine years.

RICHARD CERCONE

As the son of a 22-year career military veteran, the concepts God, country, and family were established early in my life. One of my first opportunities came when I worked as an intern for a Virginia Congressman in the early 80's. I have worked in managerial positions for various retail companies and I have been employed at JC Penney's for the past five years as the Loss Prevention Manager. All these experiences, I feel, have helped to develop strong skills in working with and for others. In addition, I have been blessed to be married 11 years and my wife and I have three children.

KIM DEYER

For the past seven years living in Wilmore to raise children has been productive, quiet and safe. The qualities of a good elementary school, a fine police department and fine volunteer fire department are continued efforts for me to put forth as a parent and councilwoman. For the past six months I have attended City Council meetings to educate myself for the office of City Council. This has allowed me to know the issues facing Wilmore. The past two years I have served on the successful Wilmore Community Development Committee. Wilmore is part of The Kentucky Main Street Program. This program helps revitalize downtowns through organization, promotion, design and economic restructuring.

JAMES LEONARD FITCH

I am James Leonard Fitch and I reside at 113 Pickett Dr. in the City of Wilmore. I am a Christian, who loves my God and I am in awe of His awesome power and I also believe that he provides for my daily needs.

In December of 1956 I arrived in Wilmore from Moores, New York to begin a new life here with my family. I graduated from Wilmore High School in May 1958. I attended Asbury College and received my degree in Physical Education in 1964. I married in 1960 to Emily G. Colbath and we have four children and five grandchildren.

I have served our community for approximately thirty years as Councilman and for much longer as a businessman in Fitch Foods Inc.

BILL GLOVER

November 3rd is not only election day but the day I was born to Billy and Margaret Glover, the fifth generation of my family to live in Wilmore. I grew up working in my parents' small businesses and graduated from Asbury College in 1974. My work is in information systems at St. Joseph Hospital and I attend the Wilmore United Methodist Church. My family is very special to me and includes my sisters, Lynndy (Bobby) Baldridge of Wilmore, and Julia (David) Simms of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and a brother John Todd who passed away earlier this year. I most enjoy being "Uncle Bill" to Krista, Zac, and Luke, all of whom I am very proud.

EDWARD MCKINLEY

I have lived and worked in Wilmore since 1970. This town has been my home for over half my life. I like it, and I like living here. I have come to love Kentucky as the place where, except for my family who live in another State, I have met all the people in the world whom I love or care about deeply. I am experienced in public service (City Council 1988-1993, Planning and Zoning since 1994).

MARY JO MORROW

Although I grew up in Nelson County on the farm, I have lived in the Wilmore community since 1960. After graduating from Asbury College, I taught in Fayette County Schools for 10 years while continuing to live in Wilmore. I transferred to Jessamine County Schools and taught at Warner Elementary and then 11 years at Wilmore Elementary School. This has provided me the opportunity to teach many of today's voters and their children. Although I am currently retired from public school, I serve as a supervisor of student teachers and first year teachers. I have been an active member of Wilmore United Methodist Church since first coming to Wilmore.

PAUL SOUTHGATE

My name is Paul Southgate. I have served on the City Council for five years. I worked for Asbury Seminary for almost 15 years from 1980 to 1995. Most recently I have worked for Asbury College since 1995 as Director of Information Services. I was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1977-83. While in the USMCR, I became the Chaplain of my unit because they believed me to be a truthful and honest man who always stood up for God and His principles. As your City Councilman, I will continue to stand for truth and honesty.

Don't Forget to Vote Nov. 3!
