Thanks for a Successful Bluegrass Mission Project

Dear Friends in Wilmore,

What do you call it when young people from several states, their youth leaders, local churches and businesses, and countless volunteers choose to serve the residents of Wilmore and Jessamine County for one week during the summer ? ? ? ?

For the past five summers now it has been called THE BLUEGRASS MISSION PROJECT. This local ministry sponsored by the Wilmore Presbyterian Church brings residents who need home repair and willing youth together for one week of intense service and fellowship.

During the week of June 21-27, 97 participants took part in this summer's Bluegrass Mission Project. Youth representing eight different churches from North Carolina, Georgia, Ohio, Michigan, and Kentucky provided the labor to complete 13 projects in Wilmore, Nicholasville and Keene. Handicapped ramps were built, porches and roofs were repaired, floors and cabinets were replaced, showers and tubs were installed, walls were painted and papered and countless blessings were received and given by those who needed assistance as well as those who provided it.

A project of this magnitude takes the gifts, efforts and prayers of many people working together to provide what's needed both on the work sites and behind the scenes as well. We certainly had an abundance of all three. As project director, I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank:

Betty Price of the Wilmore/High Bridge Community Service Center for assisting in the selection and coordination of the work sites.

Dennis Adams and Winston Smith for their skills in assessing project needs and coordinating work site materials.

Wonderful volunteers who assisted in the preparation and serving of meals from the:
Community Missionary Church
Great Commission Fellowship
High Bridge Union Church
Mt. Freedom Baptist Church
Wesley Retirement Village
Wilmore Christian Church
Wilmore Elementary School Staff
Wilmore Free Methodist Church
Wilmore Presbyterian Church
Wilmore United Methodist Church

I wish to thank all those who provided transportation to work sites, delivered lunches, took photographs and assisted in the evening programs. We are also grateful to the many businesses and organizations who gave us discounts, contributed food or paper goods, and shared their facilities with us.

It is amazing what things can be done when Christians unite with one another to serve the Lord and each other. I am very thankful to live in the community of Wilmore where projects such as The Bluegrass Mission Project pull us all together in service and love. Thank you Wilmore!

Grace and Peace,
Cindy Hahn
