From the Mayor's Desk:

The Three R's

If I asked you what is meant by the "three R's," many of you would probably guess reading, 'riting, and 'rithmetic. This past year the City Council, staff, and I have worked on our own 3 R's: Roseglade, Route 68, and refinancing. As we think and reflect on these issues, I am reminded of the three R's developed by writer Richard Carlson.

RESPONSIVE means acting appropriately to the issue at hand. Responsive means having the ability to maintain perspectives and to choose the best alternative or course of action given your unique situation.

RECEPTIVE implies being open to ideas and suggestions. It means being willing to receive whatever it is that you need at that moment. It is the opposite of being closed-minded and stubborn. We must be willing to have a "beginner's mind," and the willingness to learn.

REASONABLE suggests the ability to see things fairly and being willing to listen.

The three areas mentioned above--- Roseglade, Route 68, and refinancing-- have taken many hours of council meetings and many more hours of committee work sessions. Even though an enormous amount of time and energy was invested, they are very important issues to Wilmore's future and must continue to be our focus.

In dealing with these issues, I believe that the Council has applied the three R's in each issue as they have continued to do the right thing at the right time for the right reason. Each situation has its own unique set of problems and sources of stress.

I'm an optimist! I believe that we can make incremental improvements in the quality of life in Wilmore. Without minimizing any of these difficult issues, I believe that we must continue to deal with these areas of concern.

Our agendas will always be full, every Monday night with either "small stuff" or really "big stuff"
