After School Program
A new recreation opportunity will begin in September at Wilmore Elementary School. This after school program will be a joint venture of Wilmore Elementary, WESCare, City of Wilmore and Asbury College.
Children attending Wilmore Elementary will be eligible for this new program. Information and registration will be available from City Hall and Wilmore School after September 1.
Composting
If you are interested in gardening or environmental issues, you'll already know that composting is enjoying a newfound popularity. In the past, most composters were primarily interested in producing a garden nutrient. Now many are also interested in reducing household waste.
Composting can reduce a typical household waste stream by about 30%. An excellent source of information is available on the web site http://www.gurd.bc.ca/waste/bro/swcompl.htm or at City Hall.
Community Development Program
Wilmore Heritage Festival will be held on Saturday, October 17, 1998 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will feature fine artists, true craftspeople and hand-crafted items. Other activities planned for this first event are local entertainment, book signings by local writers, antique farm equipment, antique cars, and of course, good food. Come help us establish a fall festival in historic downtown Wilmore. For more information contact Freida Lear at National City Bank.
Community Development Board
Thank you to 13 hard working members who work tirelessly to educate, build consensus, stimulate the economy through action, and work to revitalize downtown.
Transportation Bill
In a move that secured a major victory for recreation, conservation, and the environment, President Clinton on June 9th signed the "Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century", providing billions of dollars over the next six years for Transportation Enhancements, Recreational Trails and Scenic Byways. First created under the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991, these programs have become critical funding sources for parks, recreation and tourism initiatives in communities nationwide.
TEA-21 will help insure that places of cultural and historic significance will continue to benefit communities and that citizens will enjoy safe accessible places to walk, bicycle or play. Jessamine County has received 100's of thousands of dollars under the ISTEA plan and this opens the door to continued possibilities of funding in and around Wilmore, including historic High Bridge and Camp Nelson.
Part of this plan is to include connections throughout Jessamine County with hiking/walking and biking access.
