Festival of the Fourth 5K Results

Wilmore's Festival of the Fourth was fabulous this year. Many thanks to those who organized the event and worked hard for others enjoyment of this year's "Family Reunion" theme. And, also thanks to those who participated to make this a fun-filled two-day event for Wilmore. Without even a rain delay, but with steady eyes on the skies, the 3rd & 4th of July for Wilmore was very successful.

The City would like to thank our sponsors Central Bank, R.J. Corman and Taylor Made Farm for their contributions for the 1 Mile Fun Run and 5K Run. The Wilmore Parks and Recreation, Fire and Police Departments made sure everyone was well taken care of by directing runners and providing them with another contribution, High Bridge Spring Water.

The men in uniform led the parade. Thank you gentleman. They were followed by Wilmore's Summer Recreation hay wagon full of kids with Mayor Harold Rainwater and Councilman Paul Southgate on board. A bunch of kids on bikes and parents walking followed the DARE Mobile. Good job everybody - hope you had fun! Also, thanks to the Bluegrass Regional Antique Automobile Club of America, the Corvette Car Club and Jessamine Co. Antique Farm Machinery Club. We were sorry that the parade got held up at the railroad tracks by a train or two, but the fire trucks were soon to get through, because they made the most noise and brought the biggest squirt gun in town!! You guys were the most!! Thanks to the scouts, churches and other organizations who participated too. Hope to see you all next year!!

Who else can we thank, but Wilmore's own Fitch's IGA for 5 cent hot dogs and free chips?! The decorations in the dining room, done by the summer recreation staff, were very pretty. The cakes and pies were too beautiful to eat but, somehow disappeared along with the ice cream. There were well-disciplined pets who came for the pet show, artists, and the Jessamine County Bicentennial representatives. The summer recreation staff served food and had games for the kids. Betty Price organized the spelling bee. The announcer, Jeff Baier was so hot he was either announcing or in the dunking booth. Live music was provided by the Calvary Messen-gers, Rostulara and Jacky Waldrop. Both played and sang their tunes while we enjoyed them in the shade or waiting at the grill.

The day ended with a dedication of a new playground in the honor of Beulah "Boots" Braden. This playground is at the entrance of the Meadow Subdivision. This was a very quaint way to end Wilmore's Festival of the Fourth, with a special event for a very special person.

Photographs of these two days are on display at City Hall for your viewing. Stop by and take a look. Maybe you or your family were photographed by Kim Deyer. Enjoy and have a great summer!!

Committee members included John Fitch Chairman, Betty Price Co-Chairman, Amy Allen, Mayor Harold Rainwater and Kelly Woolums. Thank you all. What a nice show!!
