Arbor Day
Wilmore recognizes Arbor Day each year by having a celebration at which one or more trees are planted, often with children participating. In addition to planting the trees, the festivities have included the Arbor Day Proclamation read by the Mayor, special dedications, music and encouraging the children to celebrate Arbor Day at home by distributing seedlings to plant with their families.
In 2010, all of the activities were held at the Jessamine Early Learning Center, and we had fun. Mary Miller met with small groups of children the first week (4/13-15), and everyone learned about trees, read stories, made a worm house, did some experiments, and planted trees. The next week the children from the small groups helped teach the rest of the kindergartners what they had learned, and the activities were repeated .
